MacAPRS.txt MacAPRS (c) Copyright 1993,1994 Keith Sproul & Mark Sproul MacAPRS is a Macintosh version of the APRS program. APRS = Automatic Packet Reporting System. APRS is used for tracking stations, cars, boats, balloons etc. using Amateur Radio Packet and GPS. The original APRS was developed by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR for DOS-based PCs. This Macintosh version is fully compatible with the protocols used by the DOS version. The Macintosh version has a lot of extra stuff in it and is usable by more than just Ham Radio people. If you have a NMEA capable GPS receiver, you can use MacAPRS as a moving map system, tracking your progress, recording the data for playback later. It has a US Zipcode data base in it, a HUGE airport data base (18,000 US and 3-4,000 foreign), and some other Ham-Radio only databases. In the Amateur Radio area, MacAPRS has many good features for the hobby, it has some specialized stuff for tracking Amateur Radio weather balloons. It has the ability to listen to DX- Clusters and show you graphical information about what is going on in the area of DX-Chasing. Also, if you have the Buckmaster CD-ROM, you can look up any Ham in the US and have it show you where they live. MacAPRS is a shareware program. You need the following files to make MacAPRS work. MacAPRS.pgm.x.x.x.sit MacAPRS.Data.sit MacAPRS.Maps.sit MacAPRS.other.sit Docs and Comm Tool Box Serial Tool If you have questions, you can contact me, the author, at akasbb1@peabody.sct.ucarb.com Keith Sproul Revision History 1.0.8 Scrolling problem on older Macs (see 1.0.7) fixed. 1.0.7 First release that should work on the Powerbook-100, Macintosh Portable, Mac Plus and Mac SE. This version worked fine for the Map Windows but had a problem with the scrolling windows. This problem ONLY appeared on the older computers that did NOT have Color Quickdraw. To run MacAPRS on these older computers, you need at least 4 meg of memory and MUST be running System 7.0 or later. When running on the smaller computers, you can't have the large data bases loaded. To make MacAPRS run on the older machines, you have to remove the data files from the DATA folder, and set the Memory requirements lower.
