East Lansing and Lansing, Michigan Pinball Locations.... Last Revised January 11, 1995. Note 1: Part I is a listing of machines and their locations with machine condition labeled if I had the chance to play it. The rating are as follows: 0-2 = forget this game... it's a piece of crap! 3 = game is playable, but barely. i.e. `decent' condition 4 = game is in good/great condition. Not many problems at all. 5 = just in from the factory or a really awesome tech keeps up this baby. No rating means... I didn't play it!!! It could be in any condition... Note 2: Part II is an attempt at critiquing both the pins at a given location, and the location itself. Note 3: This is not even close to being all inclusive, but it would like to be. If you know of any locations with pins not mentioned in this list, please e-mail me at tiesmasc@student.msu.edu with the names of the pins, location, and a critique... or at least the place and what pins they have :-) Note 4: For those interested in adding to this list some places you could check are: Hotels/motels Bowling Alleys Bars Student Unions/Dorms Movie Theatres Pizza Places Laundromats PART I: LOCATIONS OF PINS IN THE GREATER LANSING/EAST LANSING AREA ======================================================== ARCADES: ======================================================== Tripper's also qualifies here but.... PART II: CRITIQUES Holiday Lanes, 3101 East Grand River, 337-9775 Although they only have one pin right now, it's in perfect condition! If it's a Bally/Williams it will say "Credits 0" not "Credits 0."! Also, there's never a line to play it. Most people are there to go bowling or play pool (They have a billiard parlor). As a side note: their games and pins are provided and kept up by Ed's Distributing, the bowling alley doesn't own the games. Pinball Pete's (Frandor), 3182 Mall Ct, EL, 332-3449 Pinball Pete's (Main), 220 Albert, EL, 337-2544 These guys have a great selection of new and not so old pins. Most are in great condition or at least very good. However, some are not really even worth a play (like 1 or 2 of the 22 or so pins). The help is decent but generally not that polite. They do correct for most things right away though. Just don't expect any empathy. Also, the frandor location is the safest and least trafficed. The downtown location is highly trafficed, especially by young teens, and there was a shooting there last year (1993); but generally, you're safe. Dale also writes: Good players are not welcome - I have been banned and they even put my picture up on the wall in the change booth. The flunkies that work there will physically remove you from the place if you even think about doing a bang-back. Oh, and then there are the shootings... Putt Putt Golf and Games, 5801 S. Pennsylvania, Lansing, 887-1567 Dale writes: Usually about five games. If you buy tokens at sale times, you can play for 10 cents a credit. Very loud and lots of little kids who love to press your credit buttons. Games People Play, 2495 N. Cedar, Holt, 694-6206 Dale writes: At first glance this place looks like pinball paradise, they have at least 12 games including Corvette, Flinstones, GnR. They are also fixing up some older games from the `80s. Plenty of space to play, the games are clean, and some of the games are even 25 cents a play. So what's the problem? Well every game has a least one major problem, usually a broken switch that prevents you from scoring the super jack pot and when we tell the owner he just looks at me and says "Is that so." In addition all tilts are set to a very sensitive setting. Choice Pizza, 316 N Capitol Ave, Lansing, 371-3649 Dale writes: Three games, fair playing conditions. Alladin's Castle (Meridian Mall), 1982 W. Grand River, Okemos, 349-7470 Pins in bad condition! not a one works that well. Also, very few new games. The help is decent though and very nice. Tripper's Sports Bar (Frandor), 354 Frandor, EL, 336-336-0717 Has the best STTNG in Lansing! A great place to play. They keep em loud! Great Atmosphere! Also, the games are generally kept in great condition! Another plus is that not many pinball players frequent this locale so the replay scores aren't to high! And the help is very amenable to all requests! Bombay Entertainment Co., 401 E. Grand River, EL, 337-0999 Four pins, all in good to great condition. Nice location, nice help, free popcorn... what more could you ask for? Well, some new games once in a while would be nice... they never seem to get any! Cancel that, they got a Road Show (The only one in EL so far... so Bombay rules now!) Dale writes: Nice place to play, to bad they have the same four games they opened the place with over a year ago. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ THIS HAS BEEN PROVIDED AS A PUBLIC SERVICE... yeah right... I just wanted my name in the archive ;-) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Special Thanks to Dale Rice for help in organizing this. (Without him, this wouldn't even be half as comprehensive as it tries to be.) Compiled by Scott R. Tiesma If you know of a job opening in Mechanical Engineering let me know! I'm graduating soon.
