Over time, these batteries are susceptible to a "memory effect", which can reduce their battery capacity. The memory effect can be cured by fully discharging the battery before recharging it. BatteryAmnesia provides a safe, fast and automatic way to deep discharge your PowerBook's battery. BatteryAmnesia bypasses the low battery warning dialogs, and prevents the "soft" sleep brought on by those dialogs. Instead, BatteryAmnesia will run your PowerBook's battery down until the "hard" hardware shutdown occurs, which is at a lower voltage. This provides the best discharge possible without an expensive external battery conditioner. Version 1.5.2 contains the following enhancements: - Fixes Mac OS 8 compatibility bug. Shareware; $10 registration fee suggested. See enclosed docs for more information. It can be downloaded from (http://members.aol.com/jbkezer/shareware.html). Deskpop is a Control Strip module which lists all volumes, folders and files currently on the Mac's desktop. This is especially useful for the (hopefully short) time the desktop is cluttered. Version 4.2.2 fixes bugs in serial number recognition code. Version 4.2 features a number of small changes and a few bug fixes. Most notably: The Get Info Window: The icon popup menu has changed. The Make Folder Icon... command has been replaced by Make Sys 7 Folder Icon... and Make MacOS 8 Folder Icon... commands. When the Get Info window changes an item's info, any file list windows containing that item are updated. Setting one of the dates to the other using the Creation Date or Modified Date items in the date popup menus works a little differently now. Read the online help for details. The Find Window: The folder list section of the Find window has been completely reworked. Read the online help topic Finding Files for details. I never really liked the old implementation, and I'm much happier with this one. It's easier to use, looks better, and tends to be faster, especially when searching a single folder. The layout of the Find window has been adjusted to provide a neater appearance. Other Changes: The Get Info drag&drops are now referred to in documentation as "droplets", and their code has been rewritten (at last), so they will no longer mistakenly complain that File Buddy hasn't been registered when if fact it has. Versions of File Buddy prior to 4.2 will not run if the current startup disk is locked (such as a CD-ROM) because they cannot create a preferences file. Starting with 4.2, File Buddy will create a preferences file in the folder containing the File Buddy application if it cannot create one on the startup disk. There is a now a preference to open an empty file list window at launch. Added an Empty Trash command to the Special menu. CMM plugin This CMM plugin allows you to select files and send and OpenDocument ('odoc') event to any of the currently running processes. This is a handy shortcut for opening files in applications other than those that created them. For instance, say you have some GIF, JPEG, or even some source code files lying around, and you want to open them in an application that you already have up and running. Instead of switching to that application, and selecting "Open" from the File menu for each file, just select all the files in the Finder, hold down the control key, and pick the application you want to send the files to. If you decide to keep this utility, please send $1.00 to the address found at the bottom of this document. Come on, just a dollar! Requirements: Mac OS 8.0, the Contextual Menu Manager extension, and the SOMobjects=81 for Mac OS shared library. Sorry, but "Open With Process" is a PowerPC-only utility. Disclaimer: It works here at home on my PowerMac 7500/100 (604/150), as well as on my PowerMac 8100/80 at work. I'm going to leave the "1.0b1" designation on it for a bit since I'm open to suggestions. However, if your Mac OS system should suddenly go up in a cloud of smoke, start spinning its monitor around and speaking in tongues, or do other nasty thing such as eating files or snacking on disks, it's not my fault. I don't guarantee that Path/URL can or will do anything except take up a tiny bit of room on your hard drive. Doesn't it suck that we need to put disclaimers on stuff like this? I'd like to thank Apple for the CMM mechanism and SDK, as well as Apple's DTS group for the kind help. =46eel free to contact me, or check my website for more information. george (ty) tempel ttempel@monmouth.com http://www.monmouth.com/~ttempel 65 West George Street Freehold, NJ 07728-1948 USA [Archived as /info-mac/cfg/open-with-process-cmm.hqx; 11K] ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Aug 1997 20:20:13 -0700 From: tcallaha@risd.edu Subject: [*] OT/PPP Toggle 2.2.1 OT/PPP Toggle 2.2.1 OT/PPP Toggle 2.2.1 toggles the state of the PPP connection using Open Transport PPP. Sword Dream 3D is a three-dimensional adventure gaming system for the Macintosh. Your surroundings are in three-D (just like in Marathon=81, Doom=81 or Descent=81). Still, this isn't a shoot-em-up videogame: it's a think-first, act-later game. And it's fun for days, not minutes... Dream 3D is distributed under the shareware system: try it first, pay if you like it. WHAT'S NEW FOR THIS VERSION ScenarioMaker is Mac OS 8-aware. This means that my application can still be used under System 7, but it gains new features if run under the new, exciting Operating System from Apple. * Dialog boxes are moveable * Error messages contain an explanation of the steps needed to recover, and are moveable * All windows and dialog boxes retain the Platinum Appearance (including focus rings), even if the Systemwide platinum appearance is turned off for compatibility reasons in the Appearance control panel. * Windoids are for real - they float in front of other windows, and disappear when you bring the application to the background. * ScenarioMaker is ready for Switchable Themes - future versions of the Mac OS will allow us to change the user interface. ScenarioMaker will automatically take advantage in full of the new theme. * Enhanced menu handling AVAILABILITY, REQUIREMENTS, AND MISCELLANEA Both Sword Dream 3D and ScenarioMaker are available in English, French and Italian. A read-me file in the package describes the 3D features for this program. This is an update for Antennahead Industries' popular shareware game ShatterBat. It features numerous performance enhancements and bug fixes, most notably InputSprocket 1.2 and support for multiprocessing. The original press release is below: RICHMOND, VA -- OCTOBER 2, 1996 -- Antennahead Industries, Inc. rolled out their new title ShatterBat today, setting a new standard for quality and technological performance in the Macintosh shareware market. Featuring fast- paced arcade shooting action in a surreal, gravityless, 3D texture- mapped environment, ShatterBat combines great gameplay with state-of-the- art graphics. "Like all the games that have become classics, ShatterBat's basic premise is simple -- shoot the bats, avoid the Big Giant Head, get the powerups, and beat the clock," says designer Andrew Meggs. "But in that simplicity lies the elegance of it, and as the pace quickens, the game really draws you in. When we were developing it, there were times when I literally had to grab the mouse away from testers so I could finish putting the game together!" Other players were a bit less technical about it. "You mean this is shareware? I can just go download it? I'm there!" said one victim of an early preview. In addition to the great gameplay, ShatterBat shows some of the best graphics to hit the Mac market in a while -- high-performance true 3D texture-mapped polygons in a six degree of freedom world, the annoyingly graceful flight of swarm upon swarm of evil robotic bats, and the ever- present Mister Bob are all right in your face for big-time first-person action! Don't stop there, though, because you also get high-quality stereo sound and a funky soundtrack, all for the low shareware price of only $12! ShatterBat runs on all 68040 machines with floating-point ability, and plays insanely great on PowerMacs.
