Subject: [*] English for Beginners - language learning
The document called 'English for Beginners (2)' contains a few interactive
computer lessons of English as a foreign language. To use it you need to
have the 'Language Toolkit Reader' program version 1.4.4 or higher which is
available from Info-Mac mirror sites.
The file demonstrates the use of the 'Language Toolkit Writer' authoring
program (which is also available from Info-Mac mirror sites). The lessons
are written for native speakers of Polish or German but you can easily
adapt this material for native speakers of other languages (French,
Italian, Japanese etc.). You can also modify and extend this set of
lessons. Use Language Toolkit Writer to make all the changes you need.

Subject: [*] CCallisto 1.1
CCallisto 1.1 - this Photoshop plug-in (PowerMac only) lets you create cool
3D TERRAINS from 2D artwork, all in Photoshop! You can also wrap your
terrains around spheres to create PLANET objects. And, *all* objects you
create in Callisto can be fully texture-mapped using PICT images. When
you're done, save your 2D renderings into a new Photoshop window just by
hitting OK. Or, save your 3D models as 3DMF files for later use in other 3D
programs. This is a fantastic plug-in for getting some amazing 3D effects
in Photoshop. The Save features are *enabled*, but to get output resolution
greater than 320x240 pixels you'll need to register for $20. Callisto was
written up in the May 4 '98 MacWEEK, p.13. It requires Quickdraw3D 1.5+ and
Photoshop 3, 4, or 5. Extensive PDF documentation included.

Subject: [*] ClippingNamer.SIT
Finder clippings are a wonderful idea that most people don't use because
they're such a pain to deal with. Ever tried to find the right clipping
among a bunch of "Text Clipping 1", "Text Clipping 2", etc? It's not too
bad with one clipping, but more than a couple leads to long sessions in
the Finder assigning useful names, wasting the time you saved.
ClippingNamer helps you manage clippings. Without leaving your current
program, you can:
* Automatically assign a new name based on the (text) clipping contents.
* Automatically create a thumbnail image (icon) for picture clippings.
* Popup a dialog that lets you see both ClippingNamer's and the Finder's
suggested names, and use either one or a new name you type.
You can set any of these modes (or none) as the default, and invoke any
of the others with modifier keys (completely customizable). There are
several other convenience options as well.
HOT TIP: About the only thing that's lacking here is the ability to edit
the text/picture in a clipping or the clipboard and that's coming later
this year. This is planned as a separate product, but will be free to
all ClippingNamer users that register before it's released.
ClippingNamer is $10 shareware. See
for this and other shareware
products. Contact the author at

This is the Japanese version of the CopyPaste package.
-MacUser Utility of the Year 1996
--America Online's Mac Utility 1996
---Shareware Junkies Mac Program of the Year 1997
*MacOS 8 compatible!
**Full Drag & Drop compatibility!
***Use up to 100 independent clipboards!
****New pop-up palette function!
CopyPaste provides a new and powerful paradigm for working with
information. CopyPaste multiplies the clipboard times 100 and makes it
quick and easy to archive and retrieve information using familiar Mac OS
technologies. Its a totally addictive utility that works invisibly in the
background and contains many tools that are useful to every Mac user.
One of the early wonders of the Mac was its revolutionary ability to do
copy and paste across various applications. Unlike other areas in the Mac's
system software that have changed and progressed over the years, copying
and pasting has not evolved. How many times have you found yourself going
back and forth copying in one application and pasting in a different
application, wishing to yourself that you could copy 5-10 items at a time,
then go to another application and paste each of these items? Now you can,
with a vengeance!
* Clip Extender - now gives 100 easy to access clipboards via menu or key
command.
* CopyPaste Palette - a floating windoid that gives the easiest access to
the clipboards and to all CopyPaste features.
* Drag and Drop *** NEW *** - allows you to drag anything to and from the
CopyPaste Palette. Not only selections from a program, but also text,
picture, sound or ClipSet files can be dragged.
* Integrated Clip Viewer *** NEW *** shows the clipboard data and allows
modifications
* Clip Recorder - remembers the last 10 items copied via command c.
* Clip Archive - copied data is added to one of 10 text files on disk.
* Save Clipboards thru Restarts - allows all 100 Clipboards to be saved
thru Shutdown or Restart.

Subject: [*] Disinfector 1.0
This is my new demo program Disinfector 1.0. It will detect 5 unknown
native macintosh viruses (and their known variants) that have been
discovered recently, and whenever possible will try to repair the
infected files. Since currently NONE of these viruses have been analyzed
by the major commercial AV companies, IT IS IMPORTANT TO PUT THIS
SOFTWARE IMMEDIATELLY IN YOUR ANTIVIRUS DIRECTORY, AS WELL AS DISTRIBUTE
IT TO ANY OTHER SITES THAT YOU KNOW, SUCH AS STANFORD, MIT OR UMICH.
Believe me, the users will appreciate it immenselly. If you test it,
beware that it will run only 20 times, since this is an evaluation
shareware version. But new users will be able to run it again for
another 20. Test run it yourselves before you post it, and if you don't
find any bugs, please put it in your antivirus ftp directories. EMAIL ME
AS SOON AS YOU POST IT, SO I CAN CHECK THE DOWNLOAD. If i find any bugs,
i will send an update ASAP.

Subject: [*] Disk Charmer 3.1.3; disk erase/copy/verify utility
Disk Charmer is a neat utility that lets you conveniently erase and
copy disks, and handle disk images in DiskCopy and DiskDup+ format.
If you have Mac OS 8.1, you can now use the Mac OS Extended format
(a.k.a. HFS Plus) and even set the minimum allocation block size.
Disk Charmer lets you create larger disks: you gain 9K on 800K disks,
19K on HD disks, 1.5MB on Zips, 2.1M on MO230 disks.
At least System 7 is required.
Help Balloons are everywhere.
Disk Charmer has a nice, modeless interface.
It fully supports drag&drop.
It supports the handy "Undo" feature we all know and love.
Disk Charmer was recently mentioned in MacWEEK:
New since version 3.1.2:
* The Make disks larger option now works again with Zip disks
(this bug was introduced by 3.1.1 when trying to work around
the Mac OS 8.1 disk corruption bug;
thanks, Robert H. Wilkinson and Chris Murphy).
* Compiled with Universal Headers 3.1;
linked with MoreFiles 1.4.8, misc tweaks.

Subject: [*] DropIcon 1.0
DropIcon is an easy to use "drag & drop" utility for adding custom icons to
image files, similar to those created by Adobe Photoshop and other image
editors. Simply drop image files onto the DropIcon icon, and new custom
icons will be generated in a matter of seconds. DropIcon works with 14
different image formats, and can do its processing in the background while
you continue with other work. Additionally, DropIcon can quickly remove
custom icons from a file or a batch of files.
DropIcon is a must-get for anyone who uses or works with graphic files.
Adding custom icons to a collection of files using DropIcon couldn't be
easier. The icons which DropIcon generates will save you enormous amounts
of time, energy and frustration -- never again will you have to open an
entire batch of images just to find the one you're looking for!
DropIcon requires:
- MacOS compatible, with 68020, 68030, 68040 or PowerPC chip
- System 7.1 or higher
- QuickTime 1.0 or higher
- 2 megabytes of available RAM

Here's a bug fix release for Jon's Commands, my AppleScipt scripting

The revision list says it all.
2.0.4b4 - Fixed problem with coercing strings to files. This showed up as
errors when running small literal scripts with the "run script" command.
2.0.4b3 - Made "copyFile" command not stomp on specified replacing option
when copying a list of files so that it wouldn't ask for every file.
2.0.4b2 - Added "Jons version" to "machine environment". Redid "moveFile"
2.0.3 changes after losing source in a horrible backup accident. Proofed
and tweaked a bunch of this document.
2.0.4b1 - Repaired "copyFile" command's boolean "replacing" parameter which
broke when adding the yes/no/ask options.
Jon's Commands is available from fine Info-Mac archives worldwide.

Subject: [*] NudgeMouser 2
NudgeMouser 2 allows you to move the mouse pointer very precisely, using
the cursor keys or the numeric keypad. It is a mouse "helper" rather
than a replacement like Easy Access. This is useful when:
- Adjusting things like slider controls, individual handles in graphics
programs, etc, that normally can only be dragged with the mouse.
- Adjusting anything precisely and with no annoying "jitter" when the
mouse can't be positioned exactly.
- Providing mouse button lock without buying new hardware.
NudgeMouser 2 is always available: you should never know it's there
unless you're using it, because it's only active while dragging. It DOES
provide the ability to lock down and/or click the mouse from the
keyboard, and to change the amount moved/keypress. NO modifier keys are
required; you can use them as usual (to option-drag, for example).
NudgeMouser 2 is an update of NudgeMouser. Changes include (optional)
key repeat and a new Control Panel that allows you to modify many
settings.
NudgeMouser 2 is $10 shareware and should be compatible with almost any
machine or application: two extra files (included) should allow it to
work with at least some versions of System 6. One conflict has been
reported, with a shareware product named "Apollo".

Subject: [*] TykeWriter 200
TykeWriter - Word Processor for Kids! Version 2.0.0
Computers are great tools for teaching elementary school age kids to
read and
write. TykeWriter is a word processing program designed for the special
needs of young children. It is fun to use and easy to learn. Children
will be proud seeing their creation in print or hearing TykeWriter read
it back to them. As the child's skills develop, the teacher or parent
can add new features by changing the level setting for that child.
These features include setting text style, font and color. An optional
tool supports accents for European languages. TykeWriter can be used
without the keyboard, using only the mouse and on-screen alphabet. It
includes a user guide.
New features since the popular version 1.2.0:
* Multi-Document Editing - For advanced students, two documents can be
edited at once.
* Dynamic Screen Layout - TykeWriter now will shrink to fit into the
small screen Macs and lap-tops. For large displays, TykeWriter will
spread out and center itself. TykeWriter now looks a little sharper
too!
* Complete Apple Character Set - The on-screen keypad now includes the
"Symbols" key which allows kids to type dozens of useful characters.
When combined with the "Accent" key, the on-screen keypad can enter the
entire Macintosh (US) character set.
* Flexible File Open/Close Modes - TykeWriter can be configured to open
and save files (documents) in a verity of ways.
* Improved Handling of Fonts - TykeWriter will now find more fonts and
displays them in alphabetic order.
* Several bugs fixed
System requirements:
* 68030 or better
* System 7.0 or later (uses only 1MB of DRAM while running). It may
work on later versions of System 6, but that has not been confirmed.
* 1 MB of disk (hard drive) space

Subject: [*] Ultimate Blackjack(tm) 1.3.3
Ultimate Blackjack is designed to provide the feel of a gambling casino with
realistic card dealing at a table with six players whose chips move across the
table when hands are won or lost. The user can learn to play Blackjack better,
by having a hint window displayed if an incorrect play is made, or having the
program deal only specific types of hands, like pairs or soft hands, so these
can be practiced directly. Card counting can also be practiced.
Going beyond the standard casino games, Ultimate Blackjack can show how much
money a particular strategy will win (or lose) in Las Vegas, and even draws a
histogram showing the distribution of outcomes. The statistical package tracks
the payoff on each card combination to understand the best play.
You can even experiment with two artificial intelligence routines, the genetic
algorithm and learning agents, to see if a computer can learn to play
Blackjack. Good Luck!
Ultimate Blackjack is shareware with a fee of $10 and includes a 42 page
manual. Version 1.3.3 is now compatible with Macintosh G3 computers and OS 8.
System Requirements:
Macintosh Computer (Color, B&W, and Grayscale)
1400 K RAM, 425 K Disk Space, System 7 or greater
