Blue Glass is a color scheme for Kaleidoscope 1.8.1, which grew out of

Reminiscent of blue glass, it has custom trash and folders written-in. The
scheme also comes with a nifty Blue Glass cursor to drop into your
extensions folder, along with desktop patterns.

in the style of Mozart as long as you can keep pressing the Compose
button. Other features include notation with scrolling playback,

cbd-coordinates from CIA world mapping program, which are available for
free and cover the entire world with more than 15,000,000 coordinates.
The layer concept of GEOCAD allows the user to create overlays of
different object types and -representations, such as grid lines,
coastlines, rivers and whatever should be plotted. GEOCAD 1.2.7 is
shareware, and you may use it free for 14 days, then you have to pay the
shareware fee of US$30,-

- several minor bugfixes
Changes in version 1.2.6:
- introduced a user-defined section line for cylindric projections to
allow the user to plot any part of the world in the center of a map
- grid lines can be delimited in range, so they can be cut at any degree
e.g. not to reach the north pole in a plot of arctic regions
- some minor bugfixes
Changes in version 1.2.5:
- dramatically improved memory management for more performance and
stability
- improved cacheing of single layers makes redraws of multilayer-maps
faster
- improved layer concept
- improved dtp-capabilities, such as high-resolution pict-export
- enabled renaming of objects types (e.g., 'small town' instead of
'city')
- improved selection of single objects and their children (e.g.,plot
only 'Italy' and children)
- alias support for coordinate files
- fixed a bug that created unwanted horizontal lines in some cbd-maps
- fixed some hundreds of minor bugs
System requirements:
- Power Macintosh (ppc)
- System 7.5 or later (GEOCAD is 100% MacOS8 compatible)
- at least 16MB of free RAM (including virtual memory)

Subject: [*] Neatnik 2.0.2
Neatnik 2.0 neatens up your Mac Finder desktop by setting the location, size
and "View" characteristics of folder windows. These characteristics can all be
set by hand, of course, but Neatnik allows you to batch-process the contents
of a folder (including all levels of enclosed folders), or an entire disk.
For Mac OS 8 users, Neatnik can now set _all_ of the "View" characteristics of
each folder it processes. This includes such things as whether "Keep arranged
by..." or "Always snap to grid" is set, which column headings are included in
list views, the Icon size, and so on. Ordinarily with Mac OS 8, these options
have to be set individually for every folder; with Neatnik 2.0, you can set
them for a batch of folders (or every folder on your hard disk) at once.
Neatnik works on three basic sets of folder window properties: location, size
and "View" characteristics. You can choose to change any or all of these
properties.
Folder window location:
The folder window locations can be set to offset from their "parent"
(containing) folder's location, so that successive levels of folders will open
to "cascading", successively-offset locations on your desktop.
Folder window size:
Folder windows can be sized in any of three ways: given the same size as their
parent folder, set to their "zoomed" size, or set to their "zoomed" height and
given their parent window's width.
Folder window "View" characteristics:
This is the aspect of Neatnik that will be most useful to Mac OS 8 users. As
noted above, with Neatnik you can set all the View characteristics for a batch
of windows at once, rather than having to painstakingly set them one window at
a time.
Many Mac users find the "one window at a time" view-setting of Mac OS 8
somewhat of a mixed blessing, or worse. In addition to Mac OS 8 users in
general, certain other groups of users will also find Neatnik particularly
valuable. Those whose work involves a great deal of folder-navigation --
perhaps on disks received from other users -- will find Neatnik an
indispensable tool for keeping things... well... neat! Producers of CD-ROM and
other on-disk publications can use Neatnik to process the master copy of their
disks before duplication, to ensure that the disk's folders will open in
orderly and predictable locations on the end user's desktops.
Neatnik is an application. It does not install any System extensions or
"patch" the system in any way. Because it is a standard Mac application,
rather than a simple compiled AppleScript, it has a sophisticated and elegant
user interface for setting its various preferences.
Neatnik was programmed by Karl Bunker and designed by Ted Van Duyn and Karl

sure what a button does, just turn on balloon help and point to it.
PowerCalc supports standard, scientific, and engineering notations and
can perform any of twenty-four trigonometric functions in either degree
or radian mode. PowerCalc can store any four numbers in memory and can
be recall them at any time. They're even saved after you've quit the
program! Input may be from the mouse or keyboard, and functions and
operations may be executed by either clicking the appropriate button or
selecting them from the menu bar. In addition, PowerCalc has a
backscape button in case you accidently input the wrong digit!

Subject: [*] PushBtnBach 2.0.1
PushBtnBach (version 2.0.1) is an example of algorithmic composition
software. PushBtnBach will keep generating new minuets in the style of
Bach as long as you can keep pressing the Compose button. Version 2.0
introduces a "continuous mode" where it keeps generating and playing
without intervention. Other features include saving as type 1 or type 0
standard MIDI files, real-time instrumentation changes, and a preview of
some of the options available with the non-shareware version (check the
Options item under the PushBtnBach menu).
The program uses a small subset of functions from the Y.M.E. toolkit
(YAV Music Engine) to generate a Bach-like menuet using a structural
model. This semantic description is expressed in "YMTDL" ("YAV's Music
Transformation Description Language"). Generating music from a model is
an entirely different approach to that employed by the companion program
CyberMozart (which simply simulates the tossing of dice to re-arrange
existing musical fragments stored as MIDI chunks, much like the approach
taken by many interactive music CD-ROMs which use digital audio chunks
insteac of MIDI).
The pair of programs (PushBtnBach and CyberMozart) illustrate the
difference between the infinite world of interactive music and the
finite world of interactive audio.
PushBtnBach is a simple demonstration of the Y.M.E. technology. Note
that some of the more generic Y.M.E. functions are available as XCMDs
and XFCNs in a shareware installer called SCexternals.
PushBtnBach a great way to obtain license-free music for your multimedia
production. Just be sure to mention how it was created as detailed in
the agreement you will find by selecting Registration Info from under
the Apple menu

Three utilities come to mind:
The commercial Disktop desk accessory (ancient, but what a product!)
offered a "save as textfile" option for any of its lists (created by
navigating heirarchies or by finding). Disktop was CE Software's bootstrap
to success, but is now published by PrairieSoft
30-day working demo here:

Laurence Harris' shareware File Buddy application offers a "Save list to
file" option: the lists can be generated by a wide variety of searching
and/or navigating.
or
download File Buddy here
BareBones' freeware BBEdit Lite* application provides an "Insert folder
listing" function. An additional benefit, of course, is that one can
compose the e-mail in BBEdit then drag the whole thing into one's mail
program.

The simplest answer to your question is to select all the files
in that folder in the Finder (command-A) and copy (command-C). Then in
your mail program, paste (command-V). You will get a list of the files
in that folder, one per line.
Anything tricker, and you will need to download a program. I
personally like XCat 1.4.1-e because I can catalog my brother-in-law's
System 6 Mac Plus and read the file on my Mac. Usually I bring it into
FileMaker Pro, but you have plenty of options within XCat. It didn't
crash the one time I ran it under OS8, yet it catalogs 400K floppies
too. I respect that in a program, spanning from really old to really
new without crashing. It's freeware (postcard) too!

Subject: Blackened monitor
I have an old (1987-8) Apple 21" b/w monitor that has recently started
giving me problems, possibly due to over-heating. After a certain period
of time, a slight whistle comes out, after which the monitor turns
itself out (or at least the monitor bleakens).
After some time, when I rstart, it all looks fine.
It has only happened twice in these last two weeks, so I'm not too sure
on repeatability, or causes, but I would like help. Both times when left
alone and with the screensaver(!) on :-)
Any chanches of it exploding?
I will be making a back-up copy of recent files, to be used in an
emergency on another Mac, but I would like to know how to lenghten its
life, if possible. Dust I know might be a cause, But I would like to
know what components to clean, and how.
Obviously this runs on an old Mac (Centris 650) would a new monitor use
the same port?
Could I plug-in a non-Apple Monitor to a C650?
And should it decease, :-( , what is the price range for large monitors?
What are the possible shipping charges to Italy, for one of the big dealers?
Do they still make b/w monitors?

Subject: Changing cicn resource sizes
Dear Fellow MacAddicts,
Does anyone know how to change the size of cicn resources appear using ResEdit?
In particular, what I'm trying to change is a series of five cicn's that
get progressively larger, giving the effect of an "animation". I want all
of them to stay the same size. I've tried deleting and replacing them with
new cicn's of the size I want, but the program still makes them get bigger.
Also, any ideas on changing the NAME of sound resources? I can change the
sound no trouble using Agent Audio, but I can't figure how to change the
names.
Sugggestions appreciated.

Subject: screen adjustments....
I seem to be loosing my screen. It keeps getting smaller and smaller.
It is a 5215CD an all in one unit and unlike some individual monitors it does
not have a horizontal and vertical adjustment handy.
At least nothing that widens the picture and heightens it.
Is this a hardware or software thing.

Ken,
There are two utils that come to mind, and each peer into disks and
folders and create lists to different degrees of detail. One is called
ListFile. That one likely wouldn't interest you, as it doesn't usually
add file types to the list (just gives names of contents). The one that
does is called PowerScan, and I believe I found my copy on Info-Mac's
HyperArchive Root on the WWW. That's probably most likely to make lists
like the DOS routine you mentioned. There's also UltraFind, which can be
a little slow in doing practically the same thing; even though it's a
"Find"-command alternative, I believe it also creates lists.
PowerScan uses the Aladdin translators (provided you have Stuffit Lite,
Stuffit Deluxe or DSEE) to peer into .sit and .sea files and other
archives. You can set the prefs to do this or to ignore anything inside a
compressed archive and just name the file in the list. PowerScan also
gives the option of saving your lists in either SimpleText or its own
(which is a binary-file format, all data fork) format.
