Subject: [*] Knockoffaly
10/Jan/98
Sometimes, you just don't know when to quit. I released this version of
Knockoffaly at the beginning of 1995 or thereabouts then went on to screw
it up with too many fancy bells and whistles. I moved twice that year
and some of my archives disappeared. Luckily my dad (Oh mein papa!) kept
a copy of the nice stable version that even works on B&W macs if needs
be. So, this is a re-release of the most stable version, (Version
1.5, oh no, wait, that was before I added the fancy-schmancy version
control. )
A souped up super game that plays
lightening fast, requires some quick reflexes (gotta get your bids in
quick on that auction!!) and has some quirky twists that Mr. Darrow
never thought of. For example, just when you're down on your luck, don't
you wish you could just reach into the bank and grab a fistful of money?
There are a couple of easter eggs which wouldn't be easter eggs if I
documented them. And farms!! You don't collect much rent on them, but
when you come home to roost the bank pays you premium prices for your
crops.
Note 1: Be sure to read the documentation carefully about how to make
private deals. The user interface isn't at it's cleanest right there and
if you're not careful you can end up just giving your property away.
Note 2: I have removed the editor and so all references to it should be
ignored. You can't reconfigure the game, steal your opponents' property,
or change any settings. A WSYWIG game editor that really works the slick
I wanted it to is something that is way more work than the game itself
and a much smaller number of people are interested, so I deemed it not
cost effective. If you want a custom game, talk to me and we can work
something out. Also, somewhere it says the game won't annoy you with
reminders to pay the shareware fee, but actually, it will. I'm not
giving away the game to sell the editor any more, I'm just selling the
game itself cheaper and I do wish to be compensated. The cost of the
game is only $5. Any other price you may find is outdated. There is NO
editor.
Note 3: Some of the folks in the acknowledgements don't really deserve
acknowledgement in this version because I didn't include their stuff
until later. But you know what? They wrote some cool routines and I'll
acknowledge them anyway. You just might not find all that stuff if you
are really that curious.
Note 4: Pay the shareware fee. Do it today. It's only $5. It's an
environmentally friendly purchase. You consume no paper, plastic,
styrofoam, cardboard, inks, or fuel in the act, just a minute amount of
electricity. Price-gouging middlemen are totally left out. That should

ENCINITAS, Calif. USA --March 24, 1998-- esp Software has just announced
the release of version 1.6 of their Macintosh QuickTime movie-building
utility software, MooVer, now in English, German and Japanese languages.
MooVer was awarded 5 mice on MacUser's Software Central site
! MooVer is
a $10 USA shareware Macintosh utility that creates a QuickTime movie from
a sequence of image and sound files dropped onto it. It is perfect for
creating computer animations, slide shows, or batch-converting images or
sounds into QuickTime movie format. MooVer's goal is to let you create
QuickTime movies quickly and easily. It is not intended to be a large
full-featured movie editing program, but is instead a simple,
easy-to-use movie builder.
MooVer works on any 68020 or better Macintosh, and is accelerated for
PowerPC, and requires MacOS 7.1 or newer, and QuickTime 2.0 or newer.
Version 1.6 adds flexible scaling/cropping options, appearance manager
support, & handles 8/16 bit mono/stereo sound files up to 44KBPS.
MooVer can read the following kinds of files as input: Macintosh Pict
files, PICS animation files, Targa files, and System 7 sound files.
MooVer will combine and compress all of the the image and sound files
into a single QuickTime movie file, which can then be played back on any
Macintosh-compatible or "Wintel"-compatible computer using QuickTime and
a movie-player application. MooVer has some additional features that make
it useful for special purpose projects:
+ A folder full of image files can be dropped onto MooVer for large-scale
batch processing.
+ It has a "Quiet Mode" where it will use previously chosen settings for
any new movies, without prompting for settings each time.
+ It can be driven by simple AppleScript commands for automated movie
making.
+ It can add each file name or user-defined strings as subtitles under
each frame.
+ Movies can be saved in Mac OS-QuickTime or cross-platform-QuickTime
(flattened) format.
+ It will pass any alpha channel information through to the movie for
transparent or "blue-screen" effects.
MooVer is fully functional shareware, so all of its features are enabled
for you to try. It costs $10 USA for a single user, for individual or
commercial use.

Subject: [*] QIM 1.2.1 FAT;Installer builder and compression utility.
QuickInstaller Maker (QIM) allows you to create straightforward an
installer for distributing any kind of file. You can build your own 68k,
PPC or FAT installer application in a very simple way, choosing many
features such as: compression, target processor, computer restarting,
destination folder. The Built Installer can show your own logo in its main
window as well as a scrolling styled "Read Me" text in its splash screen
and also a scrolling styled help text. Both texts may have embedded Picts.
QIM is able to build single self-extracting installers and installers using
external documents, for distributing your creations by using the media you
want.
Even if you will never create an installer, QIM will be anyway useful:
becoming the archiving application of your choice, since any single
QIMDocument (QIMD) holds compressed items without limits.
QIM can also create compressed archives and BinHex files for a more
convenient, free, world distribution. QIM package includes QIMExtractor
FAT, a freeware utility able to extract from compressed archives, BinHex
files and QIMDs: people without QIM will have the possibility to extract
from these kind of files, by using QIMExtractor. Last, but not least, QIM
can create SEA applications.
QIM is shareware, it costs less than a small utility and anyone should
afford it.
QIM requires at least System 7 and a 68030 processor to run.
The Built Installer (TBI) requires at least System 7, but runs on every
processor type.
QIM is Internet Config and Drag Manager aware moreover it's Appearance
savvy. Balloons available.
Why to say more about QIM 1.2.1? Any technical analysis would be very
prosy: you'd better try it.

Subject: [*] Verbs & Nouns 1.9.5 - foreign language learning
Here is the new version of the 'Verbs & Nouns' application - 1.9.5
'Verbs & Nouns' is an application for practising inflection, translation
and pronunciation at the level of single words. Features include the
opportunity to do inflection exercises, and translation exercises in
both directions; to record and play sound for single words; and to do
exercises based on sound. The program keeps a record of exercises, and
identifies the words that the student has difficulty with. Along with
the program, you need a module for the target language concerned. The
program can also be used as an authoring tool to write your own modules
of inflected words for any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator'
simplifies the addition of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the
modules to be used as bilingual dictionaries.
Ready-made modules are already available for certain languages. You can
visit my home-page to get more information:
