Subject: [*] easy beat 1.3

This is easy beat version 1.3

easy beat is a music authoring program for professional musicians and
hobbyists. The main features of easy beat are:
- easy to use (hence the name)
- no extra hardware or software needed for playing and composing
- up to 16 tracks plus a metronome track
- Internet search for MIDI files
- supports all instruments provided by QuickTime and/or an external
synthesizer (including General MIDI, GS, and XG)
- multiple views (score, drum, keyboard, TAB, chords, controllers)

  with other programs
- single-track real-time recording (requires a MIDI adapter
  and a MIDI instrument)
- stylistic variations (shuffle style, arpeggio, delay, ...)
- built-in guitar tuner
- ...

What's new in easy beat 1.3?

- There is a new "tempo view". This is is a global controller view that
can be used to define tempo variations over a song. All changes made
in this view are relative to the "nominal tempo", as specified in
  the tempo field.
- The Metronome track is now called the "Master" track and has two
possible views: One is the usual metronome view, the other is the
  new tempo view.
- View types can now be switched with a pop-up menu in the individual
  track headers.
- easy beat now displays the playing position while playing selected notes.

Problems Fixed:
- easy beat sometimes issued a false virus alert.
- While a selection was playing, playback could not be stopped.

For more details, please see:
 http://www.unisoftwareplus.com/products/easybeat.html

Hello,

We would like to announce the release of a brand new personal finance
manager for MacOS 8.5 or later, or MacOS X Final (Carbon version): Hold-Up!

Hold-Up was created by Pierre-Olivier Latour and Didier Larue. It is
distributed as a shareware for US $20 (Basic version) or US $30 (Pro
version).

Like any other personal finance manager, you can manage several accounts,
enter an unlimited number of transactions, create scheduled transactions,
define categories, payment types...

BUT here's why this product is way better than other products available now:
Contrary to others personal finance managers, Hold-Up has a nice and very
well designed user interface, and most important, it has exclusive features
like:
powerful filters (which display only transactions that match some
criteria),
multiple transactions edition in one dialog,
 automatic transaction name completion,
dynamic notes (they popup under the mouse),
 a lighting fast search field,
 several skins (Platinum, Aqua...)...
And Hold-Up is very fast!

Even if you have never use your computer to manage your personal finance,
now you can do it easily!

Visit our web site to get an exhaustive description of the product and
download the demo (only 1 Mb):

Subject: [*] QXP PhotoBook 3.0.1

QXP PhotoBook is a stand-alone utility which aids QuarkXPress users to
compile catalogs of images very quickly with a minimum of setup and user
interaction. Catalogs are saved as QuarkXPress documents, with an option to
then save as Acrobat PDF files. Some uses for QXP PhotoBook are printing out
thumbnails of images contained in a folder, or cataloguing a CD library of
images to QuarkXPress files.

QXP PhotoBook accepts any image format accepted by QuarkXPress including PDF
and GIF, as well as formats not supported by QuarkXPress, such as Adobe
Photoshop files, by choosing to import the PICT preview of images, or by
using third party XTensions. Users create catalogs by drag and dropping
files or folders onto PhotoBook's window or icon.

Many formatting options are provided, allowing users to choose page size,
colors, fonts, captions and headers and footers. The fully featured caption
option can - by using simple tags - automatically write a variety of
information about the image to the caption, such as the file's name, size or
dimensions, and more.

Sherlock Nobanners for Mac OS 9.1
2001-08-01

This is a simple ResCompare patch that removes all banners from Sherlock
version 3.0.2, included with OS 9.1. The patch will only work with
Sherlock 3.0.2. To remove banners from earlier versions, download the
other editions of Nobanners.

Most banner programs simply alter the search plugins in your system
folder; this one modifies three resources in the Sherlock application
itself, displaying only gray space instead of an obtrusive banner. If
you would rather make the modifications yourself, you can use Metrowerks
Constructor.

Use this program at your own risk. I am not responsible for the
consequences. This program is free and may be distributed on all media
for non-profit use only. For-profit users should contact the author.

Subject: printing extended characters on Tektronix printers

Have you ever put a bullet into a Powerpoint presentation on the Mac
side but when your Windows folks print it out they get a yen mark? I
think I've got an extreme version of that problem. To see this, go
into Excel, enter the numbers 1 through 255 in one column and then
type =char(xx) in the next, where xx is a cell reference to the left
in the 1-255 column. This gives you the character that correspond to
the ASCII code. (Please correct me if I get any of this wrong.) Do
this several times and change the font to a different one for each
column (say one column Geneva and the next Times New Roman). Note
that the characters corresponding from 1 to 127 are the same for both
but the ones from 128 to 255 may be different. This is certainly
true when comparing Geneva and Times New Roman. In fact, if you
check 165, you see the bullet/yen switch. If you do the same thing
in Excel on Windows, you see that the Times New Roman may differ
between the Mac and Windows versions of that font.

Switching bullets and yens I can deal with, but on our Tektronix 740
and 750 printers (using the drivers from the Tektronix Web site), the
curly (smart) single and double quotes become unprintable. This is a
major problem when getting something written by somebody (most other
people) on Windows machines.

Any suggestions?
