**IMPORTANT** Images are only kept at this site for one week. The University of Bayreuth in Germany has been archiving our images for some time and they are available from gopher://gopher.uni-bayreuth.de:70/11/Service/Meteosat ========================================================================== Look in the directory 'Information' for more information ! Files in this Directory. ======================== Infra-red images are updated at 6:40, 15:40 and 20:40, the visible images only at 12:10, except the world and european visibles which are also updated at 15:40. ( I know this sounds confusing, but there is a good reason for it - uk and nordic images are produced from higher resolution data received only at midday, and no visible is transmitted at 6:40 ). In /animations/bin can be found an image viewer 'disp' which will handle all the image formats in this archive ( incl. all the animations ), but it's rather slow, and is fiddly to set up - but does support SVGA on a wide variety of graphics cards. 1. current.[vis ir].Z --------------- -This is a compressed sun raster file of the infra-red, or visible Meteosat image captured at 0602 GMT every morning and also at 1502 GMT in the case of infra-red and 1134 for the visible image. The image size is 1152 x 900 which is exactly the size of a sun workstation root window. 2. current.[vis ir].mono.Z ------------------- -This is the monochrome, dithered version of current.*.Z . As well as being usable on monochrome workstations, this format has the advantage of being a much more compact file. 3. gifs directory. ------------------ This contains Meteosat gif files for 4 selected regions ( uk, scandinavia, europe and the world ). 4. jpeg directory. ------------------ This contains jpeg images corresponding to the gifs, and larger resolution images of Europe and Africa. 5. archive directory. --------------------- This contains the previous 7 days jpeg images for all areas.
