README for the POP mailing list (Downloaded from jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu 4/27/92, archive location updated per Andy Poling message of Thu, 11 Feb 1993 15:46:36 -0500) This is a description of the Post Office Protocol (POP) mailing list. This list was formed, out of desperation for an organized source of information, to discuss the Post Office Protocol (POP2 and POP3 - described in RFCs 918, 937, 1081, and 1082) and implimentations thereof. The driving interest was lack of easily obtained knowledge of available POP2 and POP3 servers and clients. This mailing list is meant to provide this information. Anyone, whether consumer or product provider is invited to participate. The mailing list is maintained on jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu (jhunix to the UUCP and BITNET networks) and is completely unmoderated - all messages are distributed immediately. This machine has access to the Internet, BITNET, and UUCP networks which will hopefully mean that no-one will be left out because they can't be reached by mail. An archive of all activity on the list is maintained on jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu and is retrievable by anonymous FTP in pub/mailing-lists/pop. To subscribe to the POP mailing list, send mail to "pop-request@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu" (or "POP-request"@jhunix) stating your best electronic mail address. Unsubscription requests, and bug-reports, should also be sent to this address. To send mail to the list, send it to "pop@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu" (or "pop@jhunix"). You will receive a copy of your mail message back as confirmation that it has been (or is being) distributed. Andy Poling - list maintainer ---
